Substation P&C Designer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers is currently seeking an Electrical Designer with experience in substation protection and control (P&C) design using AutoCAD-Electrical design software. This position is in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Syracuse, New York office. An in-office and/or hybrid work environment is preferred, however a remote role may be considered and is dependent on the individual's level of experience and proven ability to work remotely.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform detailed design of medium to high voltage utility substations.
- Perform detailed design of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, protection schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA and communications.
- Familiar with conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, AC/DC service calculations and selection of substation equipment.
- The successful candidate shall be able to contribute to substation equipment specifications, proposal development, and project scheduling.
- Occasional travel will be required.
Required Education/Experience
- Associate's degree or equivalent technical education.
- Minimum 6 months work experience using AutoCAD-Electrical design software.
- Candidate must have solid experience with AutoCAD.
- Candidate must have solid experience with Microsoft Office applications and Office 365.
- Candidate must have an understanding of electrical controls design and the ability to function as a Substation P&C Designer.
- Candidate must have electrical reasoning skills and attention to detail.
- The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Education/Experience
- Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design.
- Familiarity with Raster and "brownfield" (retrofit) design processes.
- Familiarity with databases and database design.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Vault (or other Document Management Systems).
- Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, vendor drawings, and such.
- Ability to select materials based on technical requirements.
