Substation Drafter
Job Summary
POWER Engineers is seeking a Drafter to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Syracuse, NY office. An in-office and/or hybrid work environment is preferred, however a remote role may be considered and is dependent on the individual's level of experience and proven ability to work remotely.
Roles and Responsibilities
As a Drafter, you will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. You are expected to support the department in achieving the goals of the department, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients.
- Perform the detailed drafting and design of low to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited to:
- One-line diagrams
- Three-line diagrams
- Schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Communications
- Station physical layouts
- Sections/Elevations
- Cable and conduit plans and details
- Ground grid design and details
- Foundation plans and details
- Structural plans and details
- Control enclosure design and details
- Lightning protection plans
- Yard lighting plans
- The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Learning, understanding, and implementing drafting knowledge.
- Learning client practices and procedures to ensure that work produced conforms to the client's standards and expectations.
- Being responsible for knowing and following POWER's standards, procedures, and processes; collaborating on design issues.
- Seeking guidance from those with more experience.
Required Education/Experience
- Associate degree, equivalent technical education, or sufficient industry experience.
- Experience with MicroStation (V8 or newer) and/or AutoCAD (version 2016 or newer).
- The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Education/Experience
- 3+ years drafting experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Experience drafting in an engineering work environment.
- Experience with Raster Design and/or Bentley Descartes.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience working with scaled drawings.
- Experience with AutoCAD Inventor and AutoCAD Electrical a plus.
- Working knowledge of substation electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, and/or substation physical/civil drawings is a plus.
- Working knowledge of survey coordinate systems a plus.
- Reliable, detail oriented self-starter who takes ownership of assigned tasks.
- Aptitude and desire to learn and grow into a technical design role.
