Distribution Studies Engineer

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Distribution Studies Engineer for our Power Delivery Distribution team.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The qualified candidate will be responsible for the performance of electrical studies and planning of utility electrical distribution systems, including:
    • Distribution System Planning Studies including construction work plans and long-range plans
    • Real and Reactive Power Flow Studies
    • Voltage Drop Studies
    • Coordination and Sectionalizing Studies
    • Arc Flash Studies
    • Distributed Energy Resource Interconnect Studies
    • Distribution Feeder Automation
    • Non-Wire Alternatives
    • Program Justification Studies, including financial modeling and/or regulatory review
  • The ability to interact with a wide variety of people to obtain the required information needed for performance of electrical distribution system studies
  • Lead and perform engineering tasks associated with a critical or analytical engineering project or a small number of complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas
  • Exercise authority and technical leadership on assignments that are often self-initiated and self-directed
    • Assignments are strategic and have significant long-term implications to achievement of overall business objectives
  • Track project schedules and budgets
  • Participation in industry working groups or standards (IEEE, CIGRE, IEC, ANSI)
  • Participation as a presenter in industry conferences
  • Some travel should be expected

Required Education/Experience

  • A BSEE degree
  • Five (5) + years of experience in the electrical power delivery industry
  • Demonstrated experience in Electrical Power System Analysis using one of the following software packages – CYME, Milsoft, or Synergi
  • Must have a strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in design teams, is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn new topics
  • Must be able to successfully pass client's background screening process
  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Desired Education/Experience

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer
  • A Master’s degree in Engineering
  • Ten (10) + years of experience in the electrical power delivery industry
  • Significant knowledge of the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV)
  • Demonstrated advance modeling techniques internal to CYME, Synergi, or Milsoft or external programing/scripting
  • Demonstrated industry participation in industry working groups, standards, conference presentations, or publications
  • Experience with developing utility planning/program standards
  • Experience with the integration of distributed generation within the planning process
