Position:   Paralegal, Labor & Employment                  Reports To: VP, Litigation, Labor & Employment

Location: East Coast Urban One location                 Department: Legal

FLSA: Exempt (Hybrid-remote)                                     Station: N/A     

OVERVIEW :

The paralegal role will provide day-to-day clerical and research  support for litigation and labor and employment matters and will report to the Vice President, Litigation, Labor & Employment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft, revise and finalize employment agreements, addendums and notices of contract renewal.  
  • Draft, revise, redline, proofread and finalize various employment-related agreements, policies, and correspondence under the supervision of the VP, Litigation, Labor & Employment.
  • Assist in providing accurate, relevant, and timely advice on legal topics (e.g., labor laws, statutory requirements) .
  • Drafting brief updates on emerging employment laws and regulations. 
  • Respond to various forms of correspondence and communications from internal stakeholders, employees, and outside counsel.
  • Creating and distributing litigation hold notices, along with litigation management. 
  • Coordination of administrative activity for VP, Litigation, Labor & Employment, including scheduling of meetings with Human Resources, employees and management, outside counsel and vendors, making travel arrangements, completion and submission of business expenses, drafting emails, correspondence, and memoranda and other documentation.
  • Assist VP, Litigation, Labor & Employment with providing day-to-day employment law counseling and support resolution of HR and legal employment issues.
  • Send legal documents via electronic signature platforms.
  • Assist with other legal-related projects as needed.
  • Manage the collection, review and analysis of data for VP, Litigation, Labor & Employment.
  • Research and analyze legal sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, etc.
  • Prepare initial drafts of correspondence, agreements and other documents for review.
  • Assist with preparation of federal and state administrative filings.
  • Draft PowerPoint and other materials for training purposes.
  • Other responsibilities as attorney and client needs dictate.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of labor and employment related experience in a corporate law department, HR department or law firm.
  • Extremely proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Diplomatically assertive.
  • Knowledge or experience working with document management systems.
  • Strong organizational and proofreading skills with the ability to handle multiple, high priority projects with a keen attention to detail.
  • Professional demeanor; team player orientation. 
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Display a great deal of initiative, strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to develop procedures, processes and systems for accuracy, efficiency and productivity.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive, upbeat attitude.
  • Complies with Network and Urban One’s mandatory trainings and adheres to related course deadlines.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:   

Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field required; Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred. Paralegal certificate required or other credential evidencing satisfactory completion of paralegal studies program.
