Work Location:   Washington, DC Metropolitan Area; Richmond, VA; Philadelphia, PA; Raleigh, NC or Charlotte, NC       

 

This position may work remote on a part-time basis in accordance with company policy and manager approval.

OVERVIEW:

The qualified candidate for this role is a self-starter who can independently complete a project and job duties from start to finish, is detail-oriented, and enjoys interacting with people.  The incumbent will demonstrate a can-do attitude and thrives in a fast-paced workplace.  They will be a key member of the team and serve as an advisor and internal expert on welfare benefits and incentive plans to include medical benefits, FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, disability, pension and retirement plans.  They will support the selection, implementation and administration of the organization’s benefits and compensation programs. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Benefits and Welfare Administration

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to the SVP of HR and executive leadership to provide strategic guidance that aligns benefit and incentive programs with organizational goals
  • Serves as a change agent driving participant behavior through benefit plan design, changes, and education
  • Establishes and leads effective benefits communication strategy to effectively inform employees and ensures that accurate, up-to-date forms, materials, and program descriptions are available
  • Develops various benefit strategies with support of vendors to host informative workshops for the organization throughout the year
  • Oversees wellness initiatives and serves as an internal thought partner to design creative and exciting concepts
  • Serves as a key advisor in partnership with broker and vendors to design attractive, custom benefit plans for the organization 
  • Provides forward thinking support to assist employees with questions, conducts research, and resolves issues ensuring appropriate documentation
  • Acts as resident FMLA/ADA, medical leave expert steering process of evaluation, documentation and engaging in the interactive process
  • Manages open enrollment and related activities
  • Adapts to the use of technology to administer benefits programs to include but not limited to web-based tools, employee benefits information system or human resource information system, etc.
  • Works with Technology team and HRIS support to ensure the set-up of benefit plans are accurate in accordance with established business rules
  • Leads crisis management process as needed and fosters relationships with consultants
  • Keeps current on federal, state and local compensation and benefits laws and regulations to ensure Company compliance
  • Participates in special projects as directed by SVP, Human Resources

 

Compensation and Incentives

  • Develops and administers overall compensation programs, guidelines and procedures for base and bonus, pay equity, job evaluation, sales incentive, and merit programs
  • Researches and recommends compensation solutions on issues such as equity, recruitment, and retention
  • Conducts and participates in published market salary surveys. Analyzes and recommends a variety of approaches to competitive compensation
  • Serves a consultant to the recruiting team and management to determine salary benchmarks
  • Accurately processes compensation changes for defined departments
  • Prepares ad-hoc reports for internal teams and external agencies and vendors
  • Leads and oversees required audits of benefit and pension plans annually 
  • Ensures organization is performing best practices in accordance with established legal and fiduciary requirements

 

Staff Management

  • Provides direct oversight of direct report’s actions and ensures the consistent use of internal best practices of disciplinary actions that are measurable and documented in accordance with the department’s standards
  • Draft comprehensive job descriptions (direct report) and consistently conduct routine review of duties (annual) and document all changes
  • Recruit well-qualified talent and provide hands-on training and on-going support to ensure staff are providing high quality deliverables
  • Demonstrates ability to lead, motivate and direct a team to include but not limited to:

    • Resolve issues/conflicts with diplomacy in a timely manner
    • Provide on-going guidance and support for growth and development
    • Deploy effective coaching skills
    • Practical understanding of anti-harassment and discrimination laws 
    • Effectively administer performance reviews, and corrective action plans as appropriate

  • Complies with Urban One’s mandatory trainings and adheres to related course deadlines

  • Knowledge of Federal and state laws impacting benefits and related areas of duties

  • Provide high degree of customer service and solution oriented
  • Superior written communication, ability to independently draft thorough correspondence, proofread, edit using proper business writing techniques

  • Ability and willingness to handle highly stressful situations, including juggling multiple activities, prioritizing customer needs and responding to crisis situations
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours and on-call for emergencies as needed
  • 15% travel and adhere to the travel and expense policy
  • Legally authorized to work in the US

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in human resources and/or CEBS or CBP certification strongly preferred or 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in the analysis, design and administration of compensation and benefits plans.  Experience developing and managing incentive compensation programs.
