**SALARY RANGE: $71,250.00 to $80,000**

Each iONE brand is an authoritative voice in its own right. In addition to publishing brands, iONE Digital is home to the original social network for urban millennials, BlackPlanet, and three YouTube brands – The Fumble, Hollyscoop, and Nerdwire.


 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the day-to-day for a team of content creators and help produce engaging, informative content on the NewsOne brand, with a balance of news briefs, original reported content, thought-provoking op/eds and multimedia content.
  • Work with the content team to proactively solicit pitches and make assignments, contribute new ideas, break news, source new stories and commission more in-depth features and tent poles.
  • Pitch in with daily briefs as needed and regularly contribute original pieces including reported news articles and provocative opinion editorials.
  • Work closely with Content Leadership as well as Audience Development, SEO and Analytics teams to incorporate pertinent insights into editorial decisions with the goal of growing audience.
  • Work as the Editorial Director’s #2 and help adhere to and enforce the breaking news strategy across iOne’s national brands, especially as it relates to NewsOne.
  • Act as a main point of contact and connecting tissue for sales, production, editorial, client, ad ops teams throughout creation process, ensuring clear communication while setting and managing expectations both internally and with clients.
  • Contribute exclusives and content to NewsOne.com as needed.
  • Coordinate with social, video, fellow site leads, sales and integrated marketing to ensure that business objectives are met though editorial.
  • Work closely with SVP, VPs and Audience Development to set a growth strategy, establish goals, and map out ways to achieve them.
  • Instill a continued culture of collaboration and communication.
  • Provide on-going guidance and support for growth and development.
  • Complies with Network and Urban One’s mandatory trainings and adheres to related course deadlines.

CRITICAL COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESS:

  • Must be comfortable in a start-up environment
  • A demonstrated ability in digital journalism, reporting and editing standards and practices, as well as AP style manual
  • A fluency in a variety of subject matters, including politics, social justice and pop culture, and the ability to properly contextualize them for our audience
  • Must possess multimedia aptitude, particularly in the areas of photos, videos, and audio.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a strong orientation toward data-driven decision making
  • Must be inherently flexible and a team player
  • Be able to travel for work when needed

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA in journalism, English, communications or equivalent experience preferred
  • 6-8 years’ experience journalism, copywriting, communication, and content development.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people in various disciplines.
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Extensive list of relevant collaborators and contacts
  • Must be willing to work occasional nights and weekends
