Job Summary Overview

The position is responsible for pro-active monitoring and management of the credit union’s commercial loan portfolio. This position is responsible for developing and executing portfolio management tactics that mitigate risks and enhance the commercial loan experience. The position will also oversee Portfolio Managers and provide leadership to ensure compliance with established Credit Union policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. The position will actively assist the Chief Credit Officer (CCO) in managing commercial loan requests from preflight through approval with specific focus on managing the renewal process of maturing loans and change in terms process.

Essential Job Functions 

             Responsible for developing and implementing tactics to monitor and manage risks within AZFCU Commercial Loan Portfolio.

             Provides accurate financial analysis and analyzes cash flow on commercial loans to identify financial condition, repayment ability to support existing credits. Reviews underwriting from Portfolio Managers in renewals and extensions to ensure compliance with policy and risks/mitigants are appropriately evaluated.

             Provides updates to executive leadership regarding commercial delinquency and works closely with Chief Credit Officer and other Credit Administration leaders to effectively manage AZFCU commercial loan balances.

             Prepares summaries and presents facts and offers opinions regarding credit worthiness on renewals, extensions, annual reviews, change in terms, site visits, and additions/releases in financial and reporting covenants.

             Remains informed about industry trends, market conditions and ensure compliance with Commercial Loan Policy, SBA, state, and federal laws.

             Ensures quality of annual reviews, site visits, analysis and tracking of borrower’s financial covenants, determination of risk grades and other analysis for ongoing portfolio management.

             Provides education and coaching to the Portfolio Managers to include ongoing financial analysis and underwriting training of the Portfolio Management team.

             Develops procedures, training, and reporting tools to enhance management of AZFCU commercial and residential portfolio.

             Resolves borrower escalations as needed.

             Performs all duties inherent to a managerial role: challenge and develop staff to be more effective, efficient, and satisfied with the work they perform for the Credit Union and its members.

             Actively assists in the management of policy and procedure relative to portfolio management and commercial lending.

             Utilizes personal credit authority to review and approve renewals, change in terms, extensions, annual reviews, and other credit related items.

             Communicates directly with Borrowers / Guarantors, as needed, for collection of required items.

             Conducts reviews for all loans with financial covenants and submits any violations to Credit Admin team for resolution.

             Assists with special assets, liquidations, and ORE property as needed.

             Works closely with Operations Administration to ensure Collateral Tracking/Tickler Report is updated and accurate.

             Coordinates third party loan file reviews including the preparation of a management response.

             Leads regular meetings, including in person quarterly meeting, with Portfolio Management staff.

             Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Position Required Qualifications

 

Minimum Education and Experience

7 years of experience in commercial lending, underwriting, or portfolio management including 2 years of supervisory experience.

 

             Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.

             Experience leading a commercial underwriting or portfolio management team.

             Strong problem solving and communication skills.

             Ability to work well with others including strong leadership skills.

             Experience training and developing commercial banking employees.

             Experience working with senior management and Credit Administration.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to speak effectively with borrowers and other employees of organization. Knowledge of commercial and SBA lending along with compliance and credit regulations. Professional written, verbal communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to produce quality work within tight time frames while managing multiple assignments. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and JHA. Strong work ethic, the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing deadlines, advanced interpersonal skills, excellent communication, and the desire to work as a team to support the overall success of the credit union. 

 

Licenses, Training, and Certifications Required

None.

 

Preferred Qualifications

             Previous loan approval authority.

             SBA underwriting experience; 7a and 504.

             Sageworks experience.

             Master’s degree or banking school graduate.

 

Hybrid Work Environment and Physical Demands

             Occasional lifting, 25 pounds or less.

             Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.

             Working on a computer for extended periods of time.
