Substation Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Substation Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Portland office located in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment with the ability to work remotely from any mutually acceptable location. 

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to client standards and processes while working independently and within a team to design complex utility substations
  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra-high voltage substations, including:
    • One-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams
    • Protection & Control, SCADA, communications
    • Physical layouts, sections/elevations, conduit and cable routing
    • Grounding, lightning protection, yard lighting
    • AC/DC systems sizing, control enclosure design, material lists
  • Participate in quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) programs
  • Support proposal development, site visits, construction, project reporting, mentorship, and client relationships
  • Occasional travel

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering), BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology), or BSREE (BS Renewable Energy Engineering) from an accredited university, preferably with a power option
  • Knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering and electrical utility substations, equipment, and design
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/Experience

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in utility substation design
  • Engineering Intern (EI) certificate, Engineer In Training (EIT) certificate, or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Professional Engineering license (PE)
  • Experience in 230kV to 500kV systems adhering to IEEE/ANSI standards
  • Ability to lead project teams and manage personnel
  • Proficiency using industry software applications including Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office 365, Bentley ProjectWise/MicroStation, Autodesk Vault/AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical/Inventor, Spatial Business Systems Substation Design Suite, etc.
