Substation Engineer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Substation Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Portland office located in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment with the ability to work remotely from any mutually acceptable location.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to client standards and processes while working independently and within a team to design complex utility substations
- Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra-high voltage substations, including:
- One-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams
- Protection & Control, SCADA, communications
- Physical layouts, sections/elevations, conduit and cable routing
- Grounding, lightning protection, yard lighting
- AC/DC systems sizing, control enclosure design, material lists
- Participate in quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) programs
- Support proposal development, site visits, construction, project reporting, mentorship, and client relationships
- Occasional travel
Required Education/Experience
- BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering), BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology), or BSREE (BS Renewable Energy Engineering) from an accredited university, preferably with a power option
- Knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering and electrical utility substations, equipment, and design
- Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
- Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
- Three (3) or more years of experience in utility substation design
- Engineering Intern (EI) certificate, Engineer In Training (EIT) certificate, or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- Professional Engineering license (PE)
- Experience in 230kV to 500kV systems adhering to IEEE/ANSI standards
- Ability to lead project teams and manage personnel
- Proficiency using industry software applications including Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office 365, Bentley ProjectWise/MicroStation, Autodesk Vault/AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical/Inventor, Spatial Business Systems Substation Design Suite, etc.
