Structural Engineer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers is seeking a Structural Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Portland office located Lake Oswego, Oregon. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (candidate will need to live within a commutable distance of the office).
Responsibilities
The Structural Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the department goals, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.
- Perform all aspects of substation structural design, including steel performance and fabrication drawings, and foundation design
- Develop steel and concrete construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules
- Understand and ensure compliance with structural code requirements
- Coordinate with all disciplines involved in electrical substation design
- Prepare calculation packages to meet client and code requirements
- Conduct QA/QC for deliverables
- Support Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needs and proposal development
- Mentor and train team members
- Adhere to client standards and processes while completing complex designs
- Occasional travel may be required
Required Education/Experience
- BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) from an accredited institution
- 4+ years of structural design experience
- Proficiency in finite element modeling (Risa3D or STAAD Pro)
- Experience with structural analysis, concrete and steel design, soil mechanics, and foundation design
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
- Ability to perform calculations for steel structures and concrete foundations
- Proven mentoring skills
- Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
- Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience
- Experience in seismic design
- Experience with RISA, MathCAD, LPile, and STAAD
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam
- Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure in multiple states
- Experience managing multiple projects concurrently, including budgets and schedules
