Renewables Senior Project Engineer
POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Senior Project Engineer for our Renewables Business Unit. This position will report to an existing POWER office with the ability to work remotely from a mutually agreed upon location.
The successful candidate will perform aspects of conventional design engineering and analysis in the power delivery market. The successful applicant will collaborate with engineers and designers on multi-discipline projects interfacing directly with clients in the renewables market. Completion of these functions requires technical competence in primary production roles and leadership competence in working with renewables clients and mentoring/supervising team members assigned to projects. Candidates will apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses to solve project-related problems. This engineer will be expected to work closely with the project management team, dealing directly with clients and providing input for marketing and strategy development. Excellent written and oral communications skills are required to be successful in this position.
Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
- Grow and manage relationships with renewables clients.
- Mentor less experienced staff in renewables project execution.
- Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to high voltage utility renewables projects design across substations, distribution, transmission line, protective relaying, SCADA, telecommunications, and studies disciplines.
- Cross-discipline reviews of associated business units within and outside of Power Delivery.
- Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner.
- Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects, including cost estimating.
- Working with Project Manager (PM) ensuring quality standards are met.
- Assisting the PM in evaluating the upcoming resource needs for specific design activities.
- Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients across multiple offices.
- Leading smaller proposal efforts and assisting on larger efforts.
Required Education/Experience:
- BSEE/BSCE or BSEET/BSCET degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option or equivalent experience
Desired Education/Experience:
- Professional Engineer License
- Ten (10) + years of experience in the design and operation of PV solar projects, BESS projects, microgrids, DER projects, wind farm projects, substations, overhead and/or underground transmission/distribution lines (4 kV through 500kV)
- The qualified candidate should have experience with the following:
- It is preferred if candidates have a strong understanding of multiple (but not all) areas of the following Power Delivery disciplines:
- Transmission and distribution substations
- Physical design
- P&C design
- Civil/site engineering
- Structural engineering
- Interconnection studies and processes
- Scoping, scheduling, and budgeting for large projects
- Compiling, winning, and executing upon project proposals
- Experience in medium, distribution, transmission design and NEC and NESC standards

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $90K - $140K per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
