Entry Level – Distribution Planning Engineer
Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers’ Distribution Engineering Services group is currently seeking a distribution planning engineer that will be responsible for the performance of electrical studies and planning of electrical distribution systems (Typically defined as 34.5kV and below) within the power delivery/electrical utility sector including. The ideal candidate will report to the Hailey, ID office (virtually) while working in a fully remote position. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Will conduct distribution system planning studies, including:
- Construction work plans and long-range plans
- Short-Medium Term Plans
- Real and Reactive Power Flow Studies
- Voltage Drop Studies
- Operational and Outage Studies
- Load Forecasting
- Interact with a wide variety of individuals to obtain the required information needed to improve performance of electrical distribution system studies
- Leads and performs engineering tasks associated with a critical or analytical engineering project or a small number of complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas.
- Exercises authority and technical leadership on assignments that are often self-initiated and self-directed. Assignments are strategic and have significant long-term implications to achievement of overall business objectives
- Track project schedules and budgets
- Participation in industry working groups or standards (IEEE, CIGRE, IEC, ANSI)
- Participation as a presenter in industry conferences
- Some travel should be expected
- Ability to learn/support other distribution disciplines such as Protection and Grid Modernization
Required Education/Experience
- A BSEE degree with a focus on power systems or relevant power industry internship experience
- Understanding of basic engineering practices, theories and principles for researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives and preparing and presenting recommendations
- Ability to work in design teams, is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn new topics
- Must have strong command of English language; experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others
- Must be able to successfully pass client's background screening process
Desired Education/Experience
- EIT with the ability to obtain PE when experience requirements are met
- Exposure to Electrical Power System Analysis using one of the following software packages – CYME, Milsoft, or Synergi
- Two (2) + years of experience in the electrical power delivery industry
- Experience with utility standards and overhead/underground distribution design
- Experience with the integration of distributed generation within the planning process
