Entry-Level Substation Engineer
Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers is seeking an Entry-Level Substation Engineer to work in its Power Delivery Substation Department in Billings, Montana.
Responsibilities
The ideal applicant will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the department's goals, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients.
- Perform the detailed design of low to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited to:
- One-line diagrams
- Schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- SCADA
- Communications
- Station physical layouts
- Sections/Elevations
- Cable and conduit plans and details
- Ground grid design and details
- Foundation plans and details
- Structural plans and details
- Control enclosure design and details
- Lightning protection plans
- Yard lighting plans
- Bills of Materials
- Site visits
- Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients
- Shall learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs
- Occasional travel
Required Education/Experience
- A BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering), BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology), BSME (BS Mechanical Engineering), or related engineering degree from an accredited university
- Good understanding of engineering fundamentals and willingness to learn industry specific knowledge
- The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
- Candidate must be willing and able to work effectively and efficiently in a remote work environment when required
- Candidate must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
- Preferably an Electrical Engineering degree with a power option from an accredited university
- At least three months of relevant electrical engineering work experience; could be on an internship or co-op basis.
- Minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA)
- Knowledge of electrical utility substations and familiarity with substation design
- Engineer In Training certificate (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
