Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is seeking an Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer to join our Power Delivery Substation Department in our Atlanta office located in Duluth, Georgia. Candidates must live within a commutable distance of the office as this is an in-office position for the initial 9-12 months to facilitate comprehensive training and mentorship. Following a successful transition period and a strong understanding of our processes and procedures as determined by the Hiring Manager, eligible employees may be considered for a remote work arrangement.

Responsibilities

The Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving its department goals, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.

  • Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including, but not limited to:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Schematics
    • Wiring diagrams
    • SCADA
    • Communications
    • Station physical layouts
    • Sections/Elevations
    • Cable and conduit plans and details
    • Ground grid design and details
    • Foundation plans and details
    • Structural plans and details
    • Control enclosure design and details
    • Lightning protection plans
    • Yard lighting plans
    • Bills of Materials
    • Site visits 
  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients
  • Shall learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs
  • Occasional travel

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) from an accredited university, preferably with a power option
  • Strong foundational knowledge of electrical engineering
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/Experience

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred
  • Knowledge of electrical utility substations and substation design
