Forest Restoration Site Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Puerto Princesa, Palawan

The Forest Restoration Site Coordinator shall coordinate and facilitate the day-to-day implementation of planned activities for the forest restoration in Cleopatra’s Needle Critical Habitat. They will support the Senior Forester in ensuring effective communication and information sharing between all partners and stakeholders, and in ensuring effective and efficient delivery of targets and good-quality results.

Guided by CI’s Forest restoration monitoring framework, they shall lead in the establishment of baseline and in monitoring seedling survival, tree cover change, disturbances, and community benefits, among others.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Implementation

• Ensure effective and efficient implementation of forest restoration activities in Cleopatra’s Needle Critical Habitat in Puerto Princesa City, in coordination with partner communities, local government units (barangay & city), and the management board.
• Assess priority sites for restoration.
• Identify appropriate sites for nursery establishment; provide technical support in nursery establishment and management.
• Monitor all restoration activities and ensure quality performance by all involved.
• Establish baseline and monitor seedling survival, tree cover change, disturbances, and community benefits.
• Strengthen local capacity on grassland fire suppression, development of community resource protocols, forest resource assessment, amongst others.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Networking, Partnership, and Advocacy

• Facilitate social preparation to establish a partnership with indigenous people and local communities, local government units and local service providers in Puerto Princesa.
• Assist the Senior Forester in gathering, developing, and sharing project information, action plans, and deliverables with internal and external project stakeholders.
• Ensure partner/stakeholder standards and interests are represented and incorporated into project deliverables.

Project Planning, Monitoring, and Reporting

• Provide inputs to the formulation of the project’s detailed implementation plan, including annual/monthly work plans and budget.
• Collect, integrate, analyze, and report on project progress in compliance with the recommended reporting schedules.
           o    weekly/monthly reports to immediate supervisor, or as need arises.
           o    monthly and quarterly reports 
           o    annual internal project assessment
• Monitor project progress.  Identify trends and corrective actions to resolve problems and ensure future project efficiencies. Help identify tools, resources, and training that will facilitate project success.
• Participate and contribute to the annual internal program planning.
• Support an organizational culture that reflects CI’s full spectrum programming of values, rights-based approach, gender responsiveness, accountability, and high performance.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• The duty station is in the CI office in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, with 90% field work that involves extended stays onsite, often outdoors, primarily in remote villages.
• Ability to work outside of normal working hours to meet project deadlines.
• Flexibility in performing duties assigned by the supervisor.
• This role is a three-year fixed-term assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Involved in forest restoration works for the last 2 to 4 years. 
• Knowledgeable in database management.
• Good written and verbal communication skills. 
• Ability to diagnose problems and identify solutions.
• Team player and able to work effectively with diverse works groups in a multicultural environment.
• Ability to work well under pressure, multitask, set priorities, and deliver quality results. 
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and under general supervision.  

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry, environmental science, or related discipline.
• A candidate/applicant with an understanding of the socio-economic and environmental issues facing Palawan/Puerto Princesa, indigenous peoples, and local communities is strongly preferred. 
• Proficiency in the local dialect is an advantage.
