ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Know the news stories of the day (local, national, international)
  • Provide in-house and in-field reporting, reporting live as possible and/or filing recorded reports for hourly newscasts on all stories being covered
  • Interact with Show Hosts to report on stories being covered
  • Enterprise and investigate story information, write and deliver recorded and live reports as well as written reports for station website
  • Contribute story ideas in collaboration with Program Director and/or News Director
  • Work with Editors to coordinate story placement and live shots
  • Set-up and conduct recorded, written and live interviews
  • Be Gather story information in person, by phone, email, text, social media, etc.
  • Develop contacts and sources for stories
  • Report to Program Director and/or News Director on story assignments, filing requirements, and best practices
  • Be aware of legal issues relating to newsgathering and editorial content 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Present a positive and professional attitude and presence at all station events
  • High level written and verbal communication skills, and in particular the ability to communicate around multiple creative projects in a time-sensitive manner
  • Strong attention to detail and solid organizational and project management skills
  • Submit to a criminal background check
  • Legal right to work in the United States

 

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

BA preferably in Journalism or Communications. Must have newsroom experience and at least 3 years of reporter and/or anchor experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
