Position Overview

The Buyer is responsible for the purchasing and replenishment of goods and services at the right time, quality, and cost necessary for BradyPLUS to delight customers and operate efficiently. The Buyer will exercise strategic thinking, analytical skills, and effective communication to manage assigned lines, supplier relationships and purchasing processes.

 Responsibilities Include:

  •  Purchasing and Sourcing:

o    Place direct purchase orders with suppliers and verify cost and delivery.

o    Exercise a high degree of autonomy, judgement and fiscal responsibility in generating purchase orders, in accordance with company parameters.

o    Ensure service and fill rate metrics are met on assigned supplier lines utilizing tools and analytics provided. 

  • Inventory Management:

o    Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate stock without over-purchasing.

o    Effectively utilize current ERP (Enterprise resource planning) to analyze data relating to demand planning. Examine trends to suggest changes to current forecasting. 

o    Analyze daily Excel reports available to take actions to improve backorders and fill rate.

o    Monitor forecasting tools provided and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.

o    Manage the appropriate procurement path for items including buying direct vs. transfer and hub/spoke models.

o    Initiate vendor returns and product transfers within the BradyPLUS network to maintain inventory levels within company guidelines.

  • Vendor Management:

o    Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers.

o    Evaluate supplier performance and collaborate with Purchasing Leadership and the Merchandising team to address any issues that arise.

o    Develop alternative sources to mitigate risk.

  • Cost Management:

o    Analyze market trends to identify cost-saving opportunities and make recommendations to leadership as it related to vendor purchases.

o    Implement strategies to reduce procurement costs in the buying practices.

  • Compliance and Documentation:

o    Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and regulations. 

o    Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier information.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration:

o    Work closely with other departments (e.g., operations, merchandising, finance) to align purchasing activities with overall business objectives.

 The ideal candidate will have:

 

  • At least three years of experience in purchasing or supply chain management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or related field (preferred but not required).
  • Industry specific experience / product knowledge (preferred but not required).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
