ANIMAL KEEPER - HAMILTON ISLAND
Work closely with the Head Keeper to deliver the highest quality of animal husbandry, care and welfare. Maintain and develop exhibits to an exceptional and safe standard and engage with the guests to deliver high levels of customer service and educate them about native Australian Fauna and Flora. Be a support to the Parks front of house team as and when requested by your manager.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Continually provide team support and assist to develop standard operating procedures reflective of the highest industry animal welfare and safety standards
Work closely with the Head Keeper and other Keeping Staff to ensure accountability for Daily Reporting for compliance purposes
Ensure the safety of animals, guests and staff at all times by following HIE policy and procedures
Stay up to date with husbandry and training information regarding the animals held in the Wildlife Park collection
Ensure sufficient feed supplies for all animals, as per SOP
Undertake the collection of koala leaf and macropod browse when required and/or if requested by Head keeper
Report any animal welfare or illness concerns to the appropriate personnel
Assist with Front of House duties as and when requested/rostered ensuring strict hygiene standards and no cross-contamination.
Report any safety hazards or incidents to the appropriate personnel
Work with senior management to continually develop new and innovative public activities that promote education and conservation
Coach and assist fellow members of the team on animal care and procedures as per the industry standard
Comply with Hamilton Island Policies and Procedures, Rules and Regulations, Code of Conduct and any other task as requested by management.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
QLD Driver’s License (Essential)
At least 2 years paid consistent experience with Native animals preferably specialising in Koalas, Reptiles or Macropods
Must possess tertiary qualifications in animal husbandry/zoology or have relevant experience or qualifications in captive animal management with a strong background in Australian Mammals, (e.g. Cert 3 or above)
Exceptional interpersonal and team building skills
Must demonstrate a passion for promoting awareness of native Australian fauna and flora
Prior guest facing and communication skills with the ability to deliver informative and engaging guided tours and provision of outlet information.
