Hamilton Island is calling...

Are you an experienced heavy vehicle mechanic ready for a sea change? Dreaming of better work-life balance, out of the city, mines or grind and want to be surrounded by turquoise waters, lush nature, and palm trees — instead of peak-hour traffic or travel?

Working with us is more than just a job — it’s a chance to build a permanent lifestyle in one of Australia’s most beautiful locations. Create the life and community most people only dream about... why wait?

Join our bustling workshop - We’re looking for experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanics with at least 4 years' experience across buses, trucks, heavy earthmoving plant, cranes and generating systems — especially those with skills on CAT, UD Trucks and Isuzu. You'll play a key role in keeping our fleet safe, compliant, and efficient to support the island’s operations.

At Hamilton Island, our values are: Service, Excellence, Environment, Team, and Safety - do these align with you?

Why You'll Love Hamilton Island:

  • It’s a dream location: One of 74 islands in the stunning Whitsundays, halfway between Brisbane and Cairns. With Whitehaven Beach and the Great Barrier Reef on your doorstep.
  • It’s a real community: Schools, supermarkets, shops, medical centre, post office, sporting clubs, restaurants, emergency services, and even our own airport with direct flights to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns.
  • It’s a better way of life: Join a tight-knit, welcoming community where many of our team have made Hamilton Island their permanent home.
  • Enjoy your work: Work a great flexible 9-day roster to enjoy more time for yourself and explore island life.
  • It’s easy to get here: Just 30 minutes from Airlie Beach, with ferry discounts, barge access, commercial flights
  • Enjoy amazing perks: Subsidised furnished staff accommodation, staff discounts on dining, activities, and amenities across the island; just to name a few!
  • Say goodbye to the city grind: No traffic jams, extra travel or being away from home. No grey city skylines. Just sunsets, snorkelling, hiking trails, and reef adventures, and calm, whilst living in a magnificent holiday destination!

About the Role:

This is a full-time, permanent position involving the maintenance and repair of a wide range of heavy vehicles and machinery. You’ll play a vital role in supporting operational continuity through maintenance, ensuring regulatory compliance. It’s a stable, long-term opportunity with genuine career progression (if you want), offering a flexible 9-day roster so you can enjoy a great work-life balance on the island. You’ll be part of a highly skilled, professional, and safety-first team that values collaboration, commitment, and community.

About You:

You’re a reliable, safety-focused mechanic with strong technical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a genuine passion for contributing to a close-knit team that shares Hamilton Island’s values.

Your skills & experience:

  • Australian recognised trade qualification and minimum 4 years’ post-trade experience.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with buses, trucks, heavy earth-moving plant, cranes and generating equipment.
  • Current manual driver’s licence and HR driver’s licence.
  • Ability to obtain and hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
  • Forklift licence (desirable).

This is not just a short-term stint — we’re looking for people who are ready to build a long-term life on Hamilton Island, just like so many of our team who have moved from cities like Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne — and never looked back.

Trade up the city life for island life — and bring your career with you! Apply now to start your next chapter.

Hamilton Island is more than just a great place to work — it’s a lifestyle, a career move, and an unforgettable experience – one to tell a story about!
