Program Management Group Department Manager
POWER Engineers, Member of WSP is currently seeking a Department Manager (DM) position to provide additional support in our Power Delivery Program Management Department 0393 (Department). This individual will manage a group of Project Manager Area Leads with additional requirements as a responsible Project Manager (PM) for other department projects. Must be located in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, or Texas.
The Department Manager has the responsibility for supporting the day-to-day activities of the Department to produce a product consistent with POWER’s mission statement and our culture. The DM is expected to oversee the Department’s Area Lead Project Managers to support the achievement of the Department’s business planning goals, while promoting and instilling POWER’s high-quality standards, and strengthen internal teamwork and technical understanding to meet the needs of our clients.
The DM will be responsible for developing a consistent approach of meeting with their team to inform, discuss, and plan for the below requirements:

DM Project Manager Support Requirements
Develop a consistent approach of communication with your Team, through weekly or bi-weekly meetings, which will be discussed with the ALs to ensure that the Department is leading up and down the chain of command to keep everyone informed.
Discuss current and upcoming proposal efforts and support the development of the Project Team to execute the proposal and project, if awarded.
Encourage and challenge Project Managers to be proactive in their careers and to take on challenges outside of their comfort zone, new clients, training initiatives, industry presentations or other career growth opportunities.
Perform Peer and Career Progression reviews, collecting and culminating peer feedback for the review process
Track on Review periods goals; positioning or finding opportunities within the Department, Business Unit, or industry to complete them
Department Support
DM will strive to maintain 75% annual utilization, and overtime will most likely be required to be successful as DM and PM within the Department
Participate in the following Department Meetings
Resourcing and Department Planning
Weekly status updates of their AL group
Bi-Monthly Department Meeting preparation
Support Department resource forecast planning for upcoming and current project loads to identify any additional support required for the projects
Participate in new hire recruiting, screening and review processes
Provide business improvement methodologies and procedures
Discuss project and/or department personnel conflicts, performance issues, and collaborate on a suitable approach to constructively provide a successful resolution
Contribute to the Business Planning, strategy and budgeting
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent industry related experience) from an accredited University required-engineering, engineering management, or construction management discipline preferred
Equivalent industry related experience is defined as ten (10) + years of professional experience including three (5) + years in the electric power and/or communications industry
Three (3) + years relevant lifecycle Project Management experience
Two (2) + years’ experience managing multiple people on a project team or in a department
Relevant experience includes large-scale project management, and/or project lead engineering experience on large/complex projects
Knowledge and experience with lifecycle project management processes and tools
General understanding of transmission systems
Proficiency with financial analysis tools in a utility setting
Must be located in either Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, or Texas
A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
Seven (7) + years of project management experience
Experience in project management controls area
Supervisory experience
