Job Description
Coach Middle School
Professional Expertise:
- The coach will instruct athletes in fundamental skills, training, and strategies necessary to achieve success.
- The coach has knowledge of game rules and league regulations and implements these rules on a consistent basis.
- The coach will organize and conduct practice sessions for the sport.
- The coach will be present at all games and or practices unless ill, injured, or excused by the Athletic Director, or Principal, in which cases he/she arranges for another approved individual to coach.
- The Head Coach will be under the supervision of the Athletic Director. If there is a situation that the Head Coach cannot or does not handle, the Athletic Director will then be asked to intervene.
Personal Behavior:
- The coach is responsible for the spiritual leadership of the team. Devotions, prayer, and discipline are all a vital part of a successful Christ like program.
- Students will receive instruction and guidance that will lead to positive values, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline with a Christian emphasis.
- The coach will exhibit responsible professional Christian conduct both in and out of the competitive arena.
School Relationships:
- The coach will work with the Athletic Director and the Academic Dean in determining academic and citizenship eligibility of individuals.
- The coach will advise all players that all class room work missed due to games must be completed and turned in on time.
- The coach will assist the teacher whenever possible to help the student/athlete be as successful as possible.
- The coach will submit a team roster to the athletic office the day after the team has been selected.
- The coach will submit a schedule of events to the athletic office 45 days prior to the first contest or as soon as the league schedule is printed.
- The coach with the assistance of the Athletic Director if needed will handle any disciplinary situations. If the coaches can’t resolve the problem notify the Athletic Director.
- The coach must fill out all injury report forms and submit them to the athletic office. Always guide the parents to their insurance carrier first. The school insurance is secondary. Call home and check up on the athlete.
- Plan and submit your post season awards night to the athletic office. This date must be approved by the AD and the Administration Council.
Facility/Fiscal/Equipment:
- The coach is responsible for the facility and the equipment used in practice sessions and in games.
- The coach is responsible for the care and upkeep of the facility, which is being used for such sport.
- The coach will maintain a strict inventory of all game and practice uniforms and equipment. At the end of the season the coach will submit a copy of the inventory to the athletic office.
- The coach is responsible to collect all monies for lost, stolen or damaged uniforms and equipment. For clarification of a situation, please see the Athletic Director.
- The coach will collect all fees and return them to the athletic office when applicable.
Transportation:
- The coach will be responsible for all driving forms to be valid when students and parents are used for drivers. No exceptions.
- The coach is responsible to always have the teams medical release forms with the drivers when transporting players. Have a few complete sets available for your drivers.
Community/Parent Relationships:
- The coach must establish a team representative/parent as soon as possible. Notify the athletic office with the representative’s name as soon as one is appointed.
- The coach is responsible for good public relations with the faculty, staff, parents, and officials.
- The coach promotes all the schools sports among parents, players, staff and fans at all times.
Other Responsibilities:
- The coach monitors athletic locker rooms before and after practices and events.
- The coach secures all doors and windows before leaving facility when applicable.
- The coach develops in each athlete a respect for the Lord, school property, and a keen awareness of upholding a positive attitude towards the team, school, players, fans, officials, and the opposing team.
- The coach will help the athletic department in areas and situations when called upon.
Recommendations:
- Have a copy of your roster with the phone numbers at home and at school.
- Know your athlete’s schedules.
- Plan and have a pre-season parent meeting.
- The Athletic Director and the Administrative Assistant are in place for support and advice if needed. Ask questions.
Athletic Trainer:
- The coach is responsible to work directly with the Athletic Trainer.
- The coach is responsible to notify the Athletic Trainer about injuries.
- The coach is responsible to help with supervision and discipline if the situation involves inappropriate behavior by your athlete in the training facility or with the trainer.
- The coach is responsible to communicate with the trainer about schedules of practices and games.
- The coach is responsible to follow the Training Room Guidelines.
- The coach is responsible to communicate to the trainer if there is any special training aids the team might need.
