Transmission Planning & Studies Engineer - Junior Level
Power Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Junior level Transmission Planning/Studies Engineers. The candidate selected for this position will work from POWER’s local office or remotely full-time at a location other than a POWER-designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a POWER office for periodic meetings as desired.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Performs power system analysis, including power flow, short circuit, and stability analysis, using software tools such as PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSLF, ASPEN, or equivalent.
- Supports the development and validation of models (both RMS and EMT) for generation and load interconnection projects.
- Prepares interconnection applications and associated documentation for projects across various North American regions.
- Leads or participates in project study meetings.
- Works proficiently both as an individual contributor and as part of a team.
Required Experience
- Requires a Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Direct experience in transmission planning and/or model development from one (1) to three (3) years.
- Hands-on experience with power-system simulation software such as PSS/E, PSS/MUST, PSLF, TARA or PSCAD.
- Familiarity with ERCOT transmission modeling and power flow assessment, including the ERCOT Planning Guide, Protocols, and other binding documents.
- Understanding of the fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy.
- Ability to work successfully in a dynamic team environment with a focus on supporting projects that meet customer needs.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Willing to travel (10% or more at times)
Desired Education/Experience
- PE registration (or equivalent)
- MSEE or PhD is highly desired.
- Python scripting and EMT experience is a plus.
