     If you are looking to grow your career in Utilities maintenance, Pinellas County Government will keep you on track. The Utilities Operations Specialist 3 is skilled technical work involving specialized testing, maintenance, and repair of utilities systems equipment, lines, or devices. Employees in this class perform routine and preventive maintenance on a variety of utilities systems and devices. Duties may include supervising skilled and semi-skilled employees, and work is performed in accordance with established procedures, but requires initiative and independent judgment.

This is an excellent opportunity to bring utility maintenance experience into a mid-level career ladder role and train for a Utilities Operations Specialist 3 (UOS3) level.  Once training is successfully completed, individuals will become UOS4 employees and receive an increase in pay.  Also, there are future opportunities to advance to a UOS4 level, supervisor or manager roles.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Lead person of a small to medium-sized construction crew installing, maintaining and repairing of water, sewer, and reclaimed apparatuses.
  • Performs and directs visual inspection of sewer lines.
  • Installs clean-outs, backflow devices.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.

What Do You Need?

  •  High school diploma or GED and 3 years of skilled utilities field experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) driving report.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Level 3 Water Distribution System Operator License obtained in accordance with Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 62-602, Drinking Water and Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators upon hire.
  • Possession and maintenance of Temporary Traffic Control Certification within 9 months of employment.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
  • Candidate may be required to perform manual labor for extended periods occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Highly Desirable

  • Ability to operate medium to large excavating equipment.
  • Working knowledge of GIS mapping system for water, sewer and reclaim infrastructure.
