***This is recruitment for a Craftworker 2 position. This is a field leadership position at the Detention center*** This position is located at the Pinellas County Jail, within the Facility Operations Division. FO provides professional in-house and contracted services to maintain and operate County buildings. This position requires highly skilled technical supervision or a designated leadership role in construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings, equipment, or facilities. This position functions as a unit leader on assignments and routinely applies craftworker skills that clearly exceed the journeyman level directing and guiding others to complete highly skilled assignments. This position requires advanced technical knowledge and experience in the installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of building systems, subsystems and associated components, inclusive of plumbing/mechanical and minor electrical (lighting components, switches and fuses). The employee in this position will be required to provide leadership and supervision over one or more helpers or peers as needed and on projects. Specifically looking for someone with the ability to deal with conflict, confrontation, disagreement in a positive manner. Also with the ability to deal effectively with other in both favorable and unfavorable situations. High level of interpersonal skills necessary to be successful.
Schedule: Monday - Friday; 12:30 PM - 9:00 PM (Shift may vary depending on project/section need including Saturdays, Sundays, Nights and occasional Stand-By)
What Would You Do?
- Supervises and is responsible for satisfactory completion of construction, renovation, and additions to county buildings, structures, and facilities.
- Performs advanced skilled work in one or more complex combinations of assignments in asset lifecycle management, systems, and equipment data collection, maintenance and repair of buildings and buildings systems.
- Performs advanced installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing and mechanical systems within large facilities.
- Makes repairs to electrical systems, switches, circuit breakers, fuse boxes and lighting equipment in buildings. Use various hand tools and test equipment.
- Ability to weld stainless steel and aluminum.
- Able to use computers for HR, BI, Workflow (CMMS), Time Management (Outlook) and Reporting (Word, Excel). Able to learn and adopt new technology.
- Assist mechanics in operation, maintenance and repair of heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment.
- Performs various plumbing tasks in buildings including but not limited to the repair of copper, steel, cast iron and PVC pipes and valves up to 4-inch in size.
- Purchase, plan and order a wide range of construction and maintenance materials, supplies, and inventory necessary for a project.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and equipment diagrams.
- Erect drywall, ceiling grids, and painting.
What Do You Need To Have?
- 5 years of skilled craft or trade experience in the installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of building systems, subsystems and associated components, inclusive of plumbing/mechanical and minor electrical and team leader, supervision, or supervisory training; or
- Completion of a 2-year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and 3 years in the installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of building systems, subsystems and associated components, inclusive of plumbing/mechanical and minor electrical and team leader, supervision, or supervisory training; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver's License.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to schedule, assign, supervise, and evaluate work performance of subordinates; establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to measure, implement and manage workflow and business processes.
- Knowledge of supervisory techniques, data management, and ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing from data analysis.
- Knowledge of standard methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, metalworking, welding and other trades.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and ability to implement appropriate safety precautions.
- Skill in the use and care of tools and related equipment.
- Ability to apply computer applications and software.
- Ability to work from oral or written instructions; interpret drawings and blueprints, prepare work specifications, estimate and procure material needs.
