Apply to be a proud employee of the Pinellas County Public Works Landscape Services grounds maintenance team. Landscape Services maintains the county owned right-of-way and roadway medians in excess of 1,075 acres per mowing cycle.
This "Crew Chief One" position is a working supervisor who manages a grounds maintenance crew for the Pinellas County Public Works Landscape Services Division. Employees in this class, supervise grounds maintenance employees, mowing activities and schedules, right-of-way clearing, sidewalk clearing, pond and ditch maintenance along all of the Pinellas County owned unincorporated properties.
Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
What Would You Do?
- Leads or supervises staff and provides direction to contract and subcontracting crews and others engaged in right-of- way, sidewalk clearing, invasive tree trimming/removal, mowing, unwanted tree clearing of rights-of-ways
- Schedules, monitors and oversees outdoor work activities and special activities and or projects.
- Supervises small to medium equipment operations; contacts equipment operators on job sites.
- Supervises and assigns crews to various job tasks and approves employees' vacation, timesheets and sick relief.
- Serves as public relations person representing Pinellas County Public Works that include investigating and resolving mowing complaints, arranging for grounds maintenance equipment to enter on private property when necessary and inform property owners the nature of the work being completed and a timeframe when all work will be complete.
- Must have grounds maintenance equipment experience and the ability to perform small construction tasks or maintenance work as needed
- Performs and enters recordkeeping in Cityworks to provide all daily work activity logs
- Performs other related work as assigned or required.
- Ensures that all TTC/MOT is properly set up and removed
What Do You Need To Have?
- Two (2) or more years of public works, two years of commercial grounds maintenance which must include being a lead worker, supervisor or manager
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver’s License
- Pinellas County BMP within 6 months.
- MOT Certification within 6 months.
- Attain one of the following: State of Florida Pesticide Applicators License within 6 months – Core, Right-of-Way, and Ornamental and Turf Pest Control.
- Assigned to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, storm disaster preparation and cleanup activities of any natural or unnatural disaster situation.
- Storm activation is mandatory prior and post tropical storm/hurricane
Highly Desirable
- FNGLA Certificate.
- ISA Certification.
- Heavy Equipment Operators Certificate.
- Pesticide Applicators License – Core, Right-of-Way, and Ornamental and Turf Pest Control.
- CDL "B" with airbrakes
- Computer, Tablet, and GPS Experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of methods, follow all operating rules and utilize the proper equipment guidelines that are used for all tools/equipment that is used in public works
- Knowledge of types and uses of public works equipment related to, streets, roadway medians and rights-of-ways and knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of construction equipment.
- Skill in equipment operations and maintenance.
- Ability to plan, schedule and supervise personnel and equipment in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
- Ability to read maps, enter daily work data into a computer/tablet, keep accurate records and also prepare reports when needed
- Ability to accurately evaluate the work, abilities and attitudes of subordinates and possession of sufficient physical strength and agility to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to use a computer to complete assignments, prepare communications, run reports, complete work orders and Service requests
