What Would You Do?

Craftworker 1

This is moderately complex non-journey level work requiring general skills in construction, maintenance, or repair of facilities, buildings, equipment, and devices in one or more craft, trade, maintenance, facility, or other specialized fields. An employee in this class performs at least one specialized line of work, frequently involving assignments in a recognized skill or multiple skills. Employees are expected to perform semi-independently on assigned work and to provide guidance and training to others when completing work.  Duties include ensuring tools, materials, and necessary resources are available to perform and complete assigned tasks.  Tasks are performed following established procedures requiring initiative and independent judgment.  Work conditions, assignments, and supervision received differ, depending on the unit assignment. 

  • Assist Craftworker 2 daily. 

  • Inspect buildings and grounds daily to identify potential hazards to staff and customers on the property and repair any such findings. 

  • Perform routine maintenance of streetlights/signs and buildings. 

  • Fabricate parts to make repairs to furniture and equipment. 

  • Responsible for the upkeep and operation of the gates in the facility. 

  • Document work activities and associated equipment, labor and material costs using asset management software.

  • Perform standby duty for building and site maintenance, excluding the Industrial Water Treatment Facility operations and Waste-to-Energy facility.

  • Perform related work as assigned or required. 

Craftworker 2

This is advanced-level journeyman work involving the performance of moderately complex assignments in construction, maintenance and/or repair of facilities, buildings, equipment, and devices in one or more craft, trade, maintenance, facility or other specialized fields. An employee in this class performs at least one specialized line of work, which frequently involves mastering assignments using a recognized skill or multiple skills. Plumbing and HVAC expertise is especially desirable. The position leads in one or more designated functions and may participate in multiple cross-functional assignments. Employees are expected to perform independently on assigned work and to provide guidance and training to others when completing work. Tasks are performed following established procedures requiring initiative and independent judgment.  Duties may require the employee to serve in a crew leader capacity. 

  • Respond to building and site maintenance service requests and triage issues to determine whether they can be repaired with in-house staff and equipment or if a vendor/contractor is needed. 
  • Plan and prioritize corrective maintenance service requests and work orders, schedule time, and arrange for material and service procurement. 
  • Perform advanced technical work in the following trades: metalworking, welding and machining, roofing and painting, air circulation, heating, electrical and mechanical equipment repair, property and building renovations, plumbing, carpentry, and masonry projects. 
  • Fabricate parts to make repairs to furniture and equipment.
  • Complete all service requests and work order data entry in Cityworks.  
  • Process all paperwork related to purchases and Purchasing Card use. 
  • Document work activities and associated equipment, labor and material costs using asset management software.
  • Perform standby duty for building and site maintenance, excluding the Industrial Water Treatment Facility operations and Waste-to-Energy facility. 
  • Perform related work as assigned or required. 

 

 What Do You Need to Have?

  • Ability to work at the Solid Waste Disposal Complex located at 3095 114th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33716.
  • Ability to work 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts.

Craftworker 1

  • Three (3) years of skilled craft or trade experience in the direct line of work; or
  • Completion of a two-year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and one (1) year of experience as described above; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Craftworker 2

  • Five (5) years of skilled craft or trade experience in the direct line of work and team leader, supervision, or supervisory training; or
  • Completion of a two-year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and three (3) years of experience and supervisory training as described above; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

 

Licensure / Certifications:

  • Florida Driver's License CDL B with tanker endorsement within one (1) year of hire. 
  • Forklift Truck certification within six (6) months of hire date. 
  • FEMA IS 100 and 700 certifications within six (6) months of hire. 
  • OSHA 30-hour General Industry certification within six (6) months of hire (Craftworker 2), OSHA 10-hour General Industry certification within six (6) months of hire (Craftworker 1).
