This is skilled work operating, heavy automotive or construction equipment, in Pinellas County Stormwater Drainage Operations. Employees in this classification operate more complex and specialized equipment and are required to exercise skill and care in the operation of equipment.  Knowledge of NPDES and FDOT regulations are emphasized. Duties require considerable skill in working efficiently and operating heavy equipment (i.e. vactor truck).

Work location for this position is 22211 US Hwy., 19, Clearwater, FL with a work schedule of Monday - Thursday 7:00AM - 5:30PM.

 

What Would You Do?

  • May supervise, on a project basis, assigned operators or other personnel and ensures work is accomplished in a safe, productive and efficient manner.
  • Sets barricades, acts as flagger and participates in general labor work as required.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.

 

What Do You Need To Have?

  • 6 months experience in the operation of a vactor truck; or

  • A Public Works Academy training certificate for equipment operators; or

  • A Pinellas County employee equipment certification that includes experience or training on a vactor truck.

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License 'B' with tanker endorsement is required.

  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

  • Other knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials required for a specific position.

 

Highly Desirable

  • Florida Commercial Driver's License 'A'
  • Previous experience and ability to perform inspections of closed conveyance pipes and structures
  • Confined space certification

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Skill in the operation of heavy automotive and/or construction equipment (i.e. vactor truck to clean pipes and soft digs).
  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, adaptability, limitations and safety precautions related to  automotive and/or construction equipment.(i.e vactor truck)
  • Ability to perform daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use and performs routine service and maintenance.
  • Ability to complete accurate accident or other routine reports.
  • Ability to work under adverse weather conditions and possession of sufficient physical strength and agility to operate heavy equipment and perform manual labor.
  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, adaptabilities, limitations and safety precautions related to a broad range of automotive and construction equipment.
