Location: Detention

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 12:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. 

Apply to be a proud employee of the Pinellas County Administrative Services Division team as an Craftworker within the Facility Operations Division.  Facility Operations provides professional in-house and contracted services to maintain and operate County buildings. 

This position is located in the Facility Operation Division, Detention Section, which is located at the Pinellas County Jail. The  Department of Administrative Service Facility Operation (FO) Division provides professional in-house and contracted services to maintain and operate the Pinellas County Jail and associated County buildings located on the Jail Campus. This position performs Asset Management activities, inclusive of but not limited, to skilled work in the installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of building systems and equipment, subsystems and associated components, inclusive of plumbing, mechanical, appliance repair, locksmithing, and minor electrical (lighting components, switches and fuses). The employee in this position may be required to occasionally act as a lead over one or more helpers or peers as needed and on projects/task assignments. 

What Would You Have To Do?

  • Perform skilled work with installation, maintenance, diagnostic, and repair of commercial building systems.
  • Use various hand tools and test equipment to measure low voltage control circuits.
  • Perform the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing and mechanical systems within large facilities.
  • Utilize a computer based asset management/maintenance management system.
  • Make minor to complex repairs to electrical locking systems, switches, circuit breakers and lock and door equipment in buildings.
  • Communicate the status of work assignments.
  • Manage your time card and work assignments using a computer-based programs.
  • Assist mechanics in operation, maintenance and repair of heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment.
  • Repair pipes and valves up to 4-inch in size.
  • Use standard plumbing tools for drain maintenance and repairs.
  • Understand the relevance of maintenance materials, supplies, and inventory necessary for the performance of work assignments and projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and equipment diagrams.
  • Performs related work as assigned, or required.

 

What Do You Have To Have?

  • 3 years of skilled craft or trade experience in the installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of building systems, subsystems and associated components, inclusive of plumbing/mechanical and minor electrical (lighting components, switches, and fuses); or
  • Completion of a two-year skilled trades vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and 1 year of experience in the installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of building systems, subsystems and associated components, inclusive of plumbing/mechanical and minor electrical (lighting components, switches, and fuses; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Florida Driver's License
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable

  • Industrial Kitchen and laundry appliance repairs and installations experience.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair building systems utilizing blueprints, schematics, industry standards, and standard tools/equipment.
  • Must possess the Spirit of Teamwork.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, practices, and repair methods.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, and practices used in building, electrical and mechanical work in a 24-hour commercial facility.
  • Knowledge of work hazards and safety associated with crafts, trades, and facilities work.
  • Ability to plan and execute facility maintenance or construction work plans.
  • Ability to complete basic record-keeping and simple math.
  • Ability to endure long periods of standing, walking or working in inclement weather and possession of sufficient physical strength and agility to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Ability to detect problems and repair machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to work from oral or written instructions, broken parts or basic diagrams and sketches.
  • Ability and strength to climb ladders and perform heavy manual labor for extended periods.
  • Ability to troubleshoot defects in machinery and equipment operation, make proper repairs and adjustments, complete assignments.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, equipment diagrams, draw sketches of proposed projects, plan assignments, order materials and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform drywall and painting repairs.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and other automated systems to monitor work, enter and retrieve information.
