Category Marketer – Farm, Pet & Hardware

JOB SUMMARY: Collaborate with merchandising, marketing, and operations to develop marketing campaigns, promotional events, and online planning for assigned categories to appeal to current and prospective customers.

Reports To: VP of Marketing & Digital Commerce 

Interacts with: Product Merchants, Business Unit Stakeholders, Marketing & eCommerce Teams


Responsibilities

  • Plans, leads, directs, and proofs marketing campaigns in collaboration with business unit stakeholders and the marketing implementation team for assigned categories to ensure they achieve success metrics.

  • Understands marketing tools available to best achieve campaign goals, including print flyers, direct mail, radio, billboard, in-store signage, events, television, social media, digital advertising, etc.

  • Collaborative team approach with Retail Product Merchants to innovate, react to trends, and create new promotional ideas to appeal to existing customers and attract new ones.

  • Develops, leads & coordinates in-store and community events related to the assigned categories.

  • Works with Merchandising to build annual category and vendor plans that achieve promotional and margin goals.

  • Assists with strategic positioning and promotions for new product launches and product line reviews, including private labels.

  • Aware of competitive activities on a regional/market basis and provides recommendations to increase market share and counteract promotions to grow market share.

  • Responsible for collaborating with vendors and the eCommerce Team to manage, add, and update online (www.farmstore.com) content for established categories.

  • Maintain regular reporting and strategic direction to eCommerce categories, including search rankings, sells with opportunities, landing pages, online web content, and other digital assets to help increase site traffic and online sales.

  • Prepare and present promotion recaps and reports to illustrate findings to Category and Leadership Teams to identify best practices and make data-backed recommendations for future activity.

  • Attend and effectively work assigned shows and meet with key vendors to maximize marketing funds and improve the collaboration of vendor national campaigns with our activities.

  • Understands the creative and design process and how design impacts messaging and effectiveness.

  • Ability to interact effectively with customers and co-workers.

  • Strong understanding of farm store operations/merchandising.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to develop tactics and manage execution to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Ability to easily navigate different software and systems and adapt quickly to changing technology

    • Examples:  Monday.com, Salesforce, Epicor Eagle, Proofing Software, PIM Systems, Google Analytics, etc.

 

Experience/Education

  • 4-year degree in Marketing / Business preferred, or equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of marketing development or brand management experience.

  • Require strong quantitative skills, including experience in data analysis and presenting results.

  • Strong MS Office skills.

 

Working Conditions

  • Occasional travel to retail locations, and trade shows, including some extended overnight.

  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Remote work is eligible if within driving distance of Wilco's Mount Angel, OR office for frequent in-person meetings.
