Position Description
Position supports the Industrial Wastewater and Drinking Water programs at NASA Ames Research Center. On-site visits minimum twice per week; site access requires US Citizenship. Position entails interfacing directly with the customer and various other professionals on center, as well as the following support activities:
- Collection of wastewater and drinking water samples.
- Preparation of compliance reports for two wastewater facilities.
- Updating wastewater permit applications in response to changes in regulations or site conditions.
- Updating drinking water permit paperwork.
- Preparing monthly and quarterly summary reports for surface distribution water regulations.
- Ongoing and randomly scheduled field investigation and sampling efforts.
- Support stormwater sampling activities
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience with industrial wastewater and drinking water programs, including experience collecting water samples and performing regulatory compliance duties.
- Knowledge of EPA chemical analytical methods.
- Knowledge of federal, state of California, and local environmental laws, regulations and standards.
- Ability to assist in mobilizing field sampling activities, repair equipment, and lift 40 pounds.
- Excellent technical and interpersonal skills with a people-centric approach to providing solutions through written and verbal communication.
- Serve as a partner with mission critical teams, helping them navigate complex environmental standards.
- Ability to work on multiple projects of varying priorities.
- Ability to understand the environmental issues affecting the site.
- General computer application skills including Microsoft Office, databases, etc.
- Ability to work without supervision, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator certification.
- Understand and troubleshoot wastewater and drinking water utility infrastructure maintenance and repair.
- Ability to conduct root cause analyses and develop corrective action plans.
Desired
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Proficiency in GIS.
- General sampling skills to support ongoing soil, groundwater and vapor intrusion investigations.
- Spanish language proficiency
Education
BS in hydrology, civil engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, related discipline, or equivalent.
Location
The position requires 2 on-site visits per week at NASA Ames Research Center. Full-time on-site work is encouraged, but not required.
Salary
The salary range for this role is $51,000 - $136,000/year. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization.
