Upcoming Overseas Deployment Opportunities
DCC’s continuing commitment to support the Department of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Armed Forces has led to exciting new opportunities for overseas operations. We are seeking motivated employees from all regions for temporary assignments on deployments of approximately three months. The positions are typically in the Construction Services job family; however, individuals in all job families could be required. DCC currently deploys employees to Kuwait and Latvia but expects other locations to be added. These positions require knowledgeable and dedicated individuals.
Employees wishing to be considered for deployment should possess the following, at a minimum:
In addition to various administrative steps, selected employees will also be required to complete the following training prior to deployment: standard first aid, CPR, firefighting and gas mask fitting (for deployments in Kuwait), online DND training, and hazardous environment training at the Peace Support Training Centre in Kingston, based on direction from DND.
Details on all pre-departure requirements will be provided upon selection.
Compensation and benefits
The following are the current compensation and benefits associated with assignments in Kuwait, Latvia and Jordan. Note that these are subject to change and that deployments to other locations may have other compensation and benefits arrangements.
Pay: For the period you are physically located in an active theatre of operations, you will generally be compensated for 56 hours per week (seven eight-hour days) at your hourly rate. While travelling to and from where you will be working, you will be compensated for 37.5 hours per week at your hourly rate.
Overseas duty allowance: In addition to your salary, you will receive for each complete month of overseas duty an allowance as part of your bi-weekly pay (currently $1,882 for assignments in Kuwait, $1,683 for Latvia). The allowance for partial months will be prorated. The allowance will start on the day you leave Canada or an interim location on the way to the deployment and end on the day you return to Canada or an interim location.
Travel expenses: DCC will provide economy-class round-trip airfare between Ottawa and the deployed country. You will be entitled to claim meals, accommodation and other expenses associated with travel for training and to get to your deployment location. You will submit claims to your manager for approval in accordance with the Travel Policy.
Insurance: DCC will pay all premiums for war-risk insurance coverage while you in the deployed country. You will receive details about this insurance prior to deployment.
Pre-and post-deployment leave: You will be granted one day (7.5 hours) of administrative paid leave prior to deployment, in addition to any annual leave you wish to use. In addition, you will have two days of paid leave to be taken immediately upon your return to Canada and one paid day of rest for each full week worked in the deployed country. These are to be taken as soon as you return to Canada and prior to fiscal year end, and may not be cashed in or banked for later use.
Annual vacation leave: Deployments involve challenging work and work schedules. The seven-day workweek and extended period away from Canada will require a different approach to managing your leisure time from what you would take at home. While you will continue to accumulate vacation leave credits during your deployment, you will not be able to use them while you are on assignment.
Clothing: While in the deployed country, you must generally wear DCC-branded clothing that maintains a professional standard while respecting local customs. You will receive a list of the required items, along with the prices. DCC will reimburse you up to $650 (for a three-month deployment) for clothing costs submitted using the standard DCC expense claim and supported by receipts. DCC will also reimburse you for a new pair of lightweight CSA-approved work boots to the current maximum amount (on top of any previously claimed costs for work boots).
