Research Associate

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Amicus Therapeutics is a global, patient-dedicated biotechnology company focused on discovering, developing and delivering high-quality medicines for people living with rare metabolic diseases.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated individual ready to work within a science-focused, collaborative, multidisciplinary drug discovery and development environment. The Associate Scientist will be responsible for supporting lab operations in upstream and downstream protein production, viral vector production, and assay support.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform experiments needed for optimization of upstream processes including, but not limited to, cell growth, transfection, and production at small and large scale, with adherent and suspension-based cells.
  • Perform experiments needed for optimization of downstream processes including, but not limited to, batch harvest, clarification, filtration, ultracentrifugation, and chromatography.
  • Perform necessary assays in support of both upstream and downstream activities for protein production and viral vector production
  • Evaluate technologies to improve processes
  • Analysis and presentation of results to larger scientific group
  • Write and review formal reports, including method SOPs, reports, and other technical documents
  • Maintain documentation of all work in laboratory notebooks

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS

Educational Requirements

  • BS with 0- 2 years’ experience

 

Professional Work Experience

  • Knowledge and experience with mammalian and/or insect cell culture
  • Knowledge and experience with common laboratory techniques including: protein expression/purification, SDS-PAGE/Western Blotting, protein concentration determination (A280, BCA, ELISA), and activity assays
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

 

Location

  • Philadelphia

Travel

  • Occasional travel to scientific conferences to present work or for training courses
