General Description:
This position provides skilled department administrative support and technically advanced services regarding computer application skills.  Technical research involves compilation and data distribution as needed by the department. Work is performed within established guidelines and procedures. The incumbent must exercise a high level of independent judgement, initiative and discretion in dissemination of sensitive information with minimal supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Incumbent may perform any combination of the tasks listed below:

  • Compiles information and creates databases, spreadsheets, and other data-management files of a highly-sophisticated nature.
  • Performs services requiring varied computer application skills through technical research involving compilation, data distribution and data accuracy.
  • Responsible for handling complicated computer database projects with minimal supervision.
  • Assists with training of staff regarding the fundamentals of database management including creating, editing and preparing training materials.
  • Provides knowledge-based technical support to field staff users.
  • Supports organizing campaigns, including but not limited to, member engagement, community engagement and political actions.
  • Represents CTA and provides assistance to members and chapter leaders requesting Association services, benefits, and programs including processing GLS referrals. 
  • Arranges, prepares and performs logistics for various meetings and workshops including Service Center Council, CTA and NEA elected leadership in the Association’s governance operation and assists the Governance Department with State Council and NEA Representative Assembly.
  • Assists the Governmental Relations Department in the coordination of the CTA Legislative Recommendation Program.
  • Composes and prepares correspondence for staff and leadership from drafts, notes, disk and/or network including editing reports to ensure correct English usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Responds to telephone and written inquiries about the department’s programs and providing specific information, including making timely referrals to appropriate staff and/or ensuring inquiries receive a response in absence of person(s) to whom assigned.
  • Works across departmental lines in a cooperative manner with managerial, professional and associate staff by answering questions and providing interpretations of information developed by the department.
  • Provides overall administrative support to the office regarding regional programs, special projects, processing mail including electronically transmitted materials, maintaining files and records, scheduling appointments, travel arrangements and maintaining office calendars for assigned staff.
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate degree & 2 years relevant experience or High School diploma/GED & 5 years relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and communicate CTA structure, policies, and procedures, programs and services.
  • Ability to initiate work, follow through on assignments and handle complex technical and logistical projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects, adapt and positively respond to changes in priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and cooperatively with staff about reports generated by the department.
  • Proficient word processing skills with minimum keyboarding speed of 55 wpm.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer technology and the ability to learn and use the Association's software programs.
  • Ability to create and manipulate relational databases.
  • Ability to operate generally used office machines.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

*This position is in a bargaining unit represented by CAS.  Salaries are established by collective bargaining agreement.  Step placement is also determined by the CTA/CAS Agreement.
