Position Description
This position will utilize Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location. Knowledgeable of GIS software and technology is essential. Works in conjunction with CADD drafters and technicians. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

  • Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results.
  • Recommends appropriate reactionary strategies in response to GIS analysis. Provides maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis.
  • For assigned nautical publications, primarily the U.S. Coast Pilot, tracks, evaluates, compiles and applies incoming data from multiple trusted sources like the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pilot Groups, Navigation Managers, etc.  
  • Compares the ENCs to relevant sections of the Coast Pilot to maintain product harmonization.  
  • Monitors maritime sections of the Code of Federal Regulations daily and applies changes to assigned publications.  
  • Edits and updates tables, lists and graphics in Adobe (Creative Suites) and Microsoft (Office) packages to insert in nautical publications using the Coast Pilot production system

Required Skills
4 years of experience working with GIS software, ArcMap and ArcCatalog, as well as graphic software- Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and MS Office expertise. Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.  Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility. 

BS in Engineering, Physical Science, Earth Science, Mathematics, related discipline, or equivalent.
