Production Manager

JOB SUMMARY: Plan, coordinate, and control manufacturing processes and activities in accordance with cost, timing, and quality. 

Reports To: Plant Operations Manager

Supervises: Team Leaders


Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day oversight of a food processing and packaging operation.
  • Work with team leaders to plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Coaches the production teams towards operational excellence through best practices and manufacturing standard.
  • Maintain cross-functional relationships between operations, maintenance, quality, safety, sanitation, supply chain, and sales.
  • Ensures all employees follow company GMPs.
  • Organizes training for production employees and review SOPs.
  • Balance production capacity with plant capabilities, equipment, staffing, and quality system requirements to ensure all domestic and export production requirements are satisfied.
  • Create and maintain KPIs for production staff.
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff, including preparing and conducting employee performance appraisal and creating employee development plans
  • Collaborate with QA to verify products are within spec.
  • Use internal & external benchmarks to drive continued improvements.
  • Maintaining safe work environment and ensure compliance with all safety practices in all business initiatives.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the HGO’s Code of Ethics and Core Values while maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Assist in product development activities
  • Participate in third party audits as needed
  • Assist in internal audit program.
  • Oversee 5S and Continuous Improvement programs.
  • Other duties, responsibilities and/or tasks as assigned.

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English. (Without an interpreter)

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a food processing environment.
  • Experience leading Continuous Improvement Teams and Lean Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience with budgets and cost management.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be willing to work weekends as necessary.
  • Able to work at a desk for extended periods of time doing analytical work or preparing reports on a computer. 
  • On call 24 hours a day for emergency situations. 
  • Ability to travel (15%) for work.

Working Conditions

  • Mostly inside an industrial food-grade facility.
  • Smocks and hairnets (beard net if necessary) are required within the facility.
  • Occasional outside work is necessary.
  • There is a moderate level of noise while the plant is in production.
